El artículo examina las nociones de consistencia, completitud y coherencia en el ámbito normativo e investiga sus relaciones mutuas. Hace esto mediante la introducción de algunas distinciones conceptuales entre consistencia relativa (a la negación) y absoluta, completitud débil, fuerte y trivial, y entre tres diferentes funciones de la coherencia (la función simplificadora, la integradora y la de
derrotabilidad). El principal resultado de la investigación es que la coherencia puede ser considerada como una combinación de completitud débil, ausencia de completitud fuerte y la posible ausencia de consistencia con respecto a la negación. También se sugiere que la coherencia puede funcionar como una garantía para mantener la consistencia normativa absoluta.


Abstract: The paper deals with the notions of consistency, completeness, and coherence within the normative domain. It investigates their mutual relations by singling out relative (to negation) and absolute consistency, weak, strong and trivial completeness, and three different functions of coherence (simplification, integration, and defeasance). The main upshot of the inquiry is that coherence may be regarded as a combination of weak completeness, lack of strong completeness, and possible absence of consistency with respect to negation. It is also maintained that coherence may work as a warrant for absolute normative consistency.
