franquista.
Abstract: This article attempts at a general interpretation of the resurgence of
the national and territorial question in Spain throughout the 1960s. This
phenomenon was crucial to reinforce Antifrancoist opposition, and
played an important role in the final legitimacy crisis of the Franco
régime. Three aspects will be examined from a comparative perspective:
a) the continuity and changes undergone by prewar substate nationalist
organisations; b) the emergence of new substate nationalisms, as well as
the ideological turn to the «anticolonialist» left experienced by some of
the historic nationalist movements, and c) the articulation of new territorial
claims, as well as of new discourses of territorial vindications, within
the local and provincial echelons of the Francoist state apparatus.
