Reich.
Abstract: This article attempts at offering new insights on the experience of
the Spanish soldiers who were enlisted in the so-called «Blue Division»,
which was deployed on the Eastern Front between 1941 and 1944, as
well as contrasting that war experience with the remembrances which
were transmitted after 1945 through a number of memoirs and reflections
which shaped what could be called the «Blue Division’s narrative».
To highlight this contrast, this essay proceeds to analyse the traces left in
the experience and narrative transmitted by the interaction of the Spanish
soldiers with Nazi Germany. To fulfil this aim, four questions are
developed in deep: the images of the Nazi régime, the German Army, the
German comrades and the civil population of the Third Reich.
