Abstract: Social Catholicism spreads with the ambition of hegemony in the
social mobilization of workers, sailors and peasants in Galicia. «To
regain» this land for Christ becomes the target of organizations and activities
sponsored during the first third of the twentieth century. In the
«Restauración» period (and the following years until the Spanish Civil
War) it will face the action of the labour movement and the non-denominational agrarism. In this article, a balance of its executions is presented
and, far from Manichaean interpretations, are pointed out the reasons
of its successes and failures.
