Este artículo se centra en los cambios culturales de la modernidad
con una mayor repercusión en el modo de plantear el problema de
la biografía. Destaca la tendencia realista, compartida con el conjunto
de la narrativa moderna. Entra en la distinción entre ciencia histórica y
biografía en el ochocientos. Pasa revista a las propuestas que en la sociología
y en la historiografía realzaron el papel del individuo en el primer
tercio del siglo xx. Termina con las transformaciones en la biografía
durante el periodo de entreguerras.

Abstract: This article focuses on the cultural changes of modernity that had
a major impact on how the problem of biography was considered. The
realist trend is emphasised, together with the whole modern narrative.
It gets into the distinction between historical science and biography in
the nineteenth century. It reviews the proposals that in sociology and
in historiography highlighted the role of the individual during the first
third of the twentieth century. It ends up with the transformations in
biography during the interwar period.
