El objeto de este artículo es analizar los cambios sociales que se
produjeron en España entre 1982 y 1996, es decir, el periodo marcado
por la acción de los gobiernos del Partido Socialista Obrero Español. Algunos
de los cambios que tuvieron lugar durante esos años comenzaron a
fraguarse desde la década de los años sesenta del siglo xx. Otros, sin embargo,
fueron el resultado de las nuevas políticas impulsadas por los gobiernos
reformistas del PSOE. Durante ese periodo, el sector industrial
se vio sometido a un profundo plan de reconversión. Los cambios se dejaron
sentir en otras muchas facetas de la vida social de los ciudadanos.

Abstract: This article analyses the social changes that occurred in Spain
between 1982 and 1996, that is, the period in which the Partido Socialista
Obrero Español (PSOE) was in government. The seeds of some
of the changes that took place during these fourteen years had already
begun to be sown as far back as the nineteen sixties; others, however,
were the result of the new policies promoted by the reformist PSOE
governments. During this period the industrial sector underwent profound
restructuring. The changes also affected many other aspects of
citizens’ social life.
