La relación entre catolicismo y nación en la España contemporánea
sigue siendo un tema central pese al paso del tiempo. El uso excesivo
y la polivalencia del concepto de nacionalcatolicismo han favorecido
una profunda indefinición poco operativa a nivel historiográfico.
En este artículo se intenta elaborar una explicación global de este cambiante
fenómeno durante los siglos xix y xx. Para ello, se sigue la propuesta
de las tres esferas (esfera pública, esfera semi-pública y esfera
privada) en relación con los procesos de nacionalización y la creación
de identidades.

Abstract: The relationship between Catholicism and nation in contemporary
Spain remains a scholarly central issue. The overuse and versatility
of the concept of National-Catholicism has led to a profound historiographical
uncertainty. This article seeks to develop a global explanation
of this changing phenomenon in the nineteenth and twentieth
centuries. To this aim, I follow here the theory of the three spheres of nationalization (public sphere, semi-public sphere and private sphere)
in relation to the creation of identities.
