La secuencia ininterrumpida de ambas guerras, la española y la
europea, paralizó el desarrollo turístico español más de una década.
Desde 1945 y en circunstancias muy difíciles, Luis Bolín, responsable
del turismo nacional, desplegó una enorme energía para hacer de España
un destino de turistas norteamericanos intentando sacar adelante
utópicos proyectos deportivos y de naturaleza. Sus planes no prosperaron,
pero eso no resta interés al giro que intentó imprimir al turismo
español. Realmente hasta 1948-1949 no empezó la recuperación
y siempre vinculada a la evolución del sector en Europa. Su fracaso fue
uno más de los fracasos económicos del primer franquismo y dejó al
país indefenso ante el boom de 1959.

Abstract: The uninterrupted sequence of both wars, the Spanish (Civil
War) and the European, paralyzed the development of Spanish tourism
for more than a decade. In 1945, and with seriously adverse conditions,
Luis Bolín, in charge of national tourism, dedicated huge efforts into making Spain a destination for North American tourists by trying
to carry out utopian projects focused on sport and nature based activities.
His plans were not successful but his enthusiasm towards changing
the direction of Spanish tourism remained the same. In fact, Spanish
tourism showed no signs of recovery until 1948-1949, and always
connected to the evolution of the sector in Europe. This lack of success
was yet another of the economic failures of the early Franco regime
and left the country defenseless when faced with the boom in 1959.
