The article analyzes the most relevant aspects of the United Nations and the European Union as peace promoting institutions. Although many dispositions of the Charter of the U.N. have not been accomplished and enforced and some international military interventions have taken place in violation of UN rules, the author defends the role the UN for the International Community. Differently from the UN, aims of EU integration have been substantially achieved. For this reason, the importance of the European Union for peace and for the protection of fundamental rights cannot be denied by any euro-sceptic rhetoric.
