Abstract: The 1978 Constitution has been designated as the reconciliation
constitution. In the last years, however, the sense of the concept has been
often twisted. In these pages the premises and objectives of the national
reconciliation policy in the PCE’s development will be analised, trying to
show by using internal documentation why the communist direction
tried to abolish the inherent fracture of the civil war. The aim was to concentrate
all efforts on the objective of finishing with the dictatorship, not
of reconciling with it. At the end of the article there is a mention of the
1977 Amnesty Law and its link to the political positions of antifrancoism.
