Por costumbre, los arrendatarios de la Huerta de Valencia tenían
derechos de propiedad sobre las mejoras que introducían en las
tierras que cultivaban. En este artículo se analiza esa costumbre con
objeto de realizar una indagación sobre algo que últimamente está atrayendo
la atención de los estudiosos de las instituciones económicas: los
derechos de propiedad los asigna el Estado por medio de leyes, pero
como las soluciones que ofrece el Estado no son siempre las más eficientes,
en ocasiones los individuos llegan a acuerdos privados para encontrar
soluciones alternativas.

Abstract: By custom, tenants on the Huerta of Valencia had property rights
over the improvements that they carried out on the farms they worked.
In this paper that custom is analysed with the aim of gaining a deeper
understanding of a topic that has recently been receiving a great
deal of attention from scholars concerned with economic institutions,
namely, the fact that property rights are granted by the State through
laws but, because the solutions offered by the State are not always the
most efficient, individuals sometimes reach private agreements in order
to find alternative solutions
