Abstract: This article analyzes the function that historical speech played in
the construction of a political-cultural nationalistic project in the first
decades of the Francoism, a time in which the Spanish national definition
was a topic to debate among the intellectuality. To that end we have studied
articles on History and historiography published in the magazine
Arbor between 1944 and 1956, where the programme of the «generation
of 1948» was formed, whose aim was that their regionalist, «pro-European
», «new-traditionalist», monarchist and Catholic ideology became
the accepted definition of the Nueva España.
