Durante la transición española a la democracia, el Partido Comunista
de España y el Partido Socialista Obrero Español experimentaron
una intensa evolución ideológica que les llevó a abandonar
algunas señas de identidad de fuerte carga simbólica para su militancia.
El propósito de este artículo es doble. Por una parte, consiste
en determinar los factores nacionales e internacionales que incentivaron
esa evolución. Por otra, se trata de analizar la contribución al
respecto de los intelectuales de ambos partidos, la apasionada implicación
de los militantes de base y el papel desempeñado por los medios
de comunicación.

Abstract: During the Spanish transition to democracy, the Communist
Party of Spain and the Spanish Socialist Working Party experienced a
rapid ideological evolution. However, some of the identity hallmarks
that had a strong meaning for their rank-and-file members were left on
the way. On the one hand, this paper will try to clarify the national and
international factors which explain this evolution. On the other hand, it
analyses the contribution of intellectuals of both parties, the passionate
involvement of their rank-and-file members, and the role played by the
media throughout this process.
