Abstract: The oil and gas resources of the Middle East and North Africa will
be critical in order to meet the growing energy demand of the world. The
region is today the main exporter of oil and this role will consolidate in
the future, expanding also to the natural gas. However, there is considerable
uncertainty about if the oil industry will be able to develop an
extractive capability enough to meet the spectacular growth in supply
required by the international markets. If by financial or political reasons
such challenge is not overcome the global energetic balance would be
radically altered. In this context, this paper explains a series of data, published
in official reports, which highlight the important role played by the
Middle East and North Africa in the global geopolitical scenario.
