Abstract: In many occasions there has been analyzed the discourse of genre
and of domesticity made by the Francoist dictatorship. But few ones have
been the works that have made an analysis beyond the familiar influence exercised by the Catholic Church, in the search of the authentic ideological
roots that originated the so-called discourse. The intention of this
article turns around the analysis of the discourse that the anti-liberal and
reactionary Spanish right prepared and constructed about the woman. A
discourse elaborated with a lot of cultural and symbolic connotations,
but sustained also in the new interpretations that the science, the philosophy
and the European sociology projected on the sexes, the woman and
the family between the last years of the nineteenth century and the early
decades of the twentieth century. All these interpretations tried to legitimize
and justify the masculine hegemony on the woman, in order to that
the last one kept on remaining subordinated inside and out of the family
ambience.
