El presente artículo comprende un análisis de los límites interpretativos
en las explicaciones predominantemente utilitaristas y estructuralistas
que han marcado en los últimos cincuenta años la producción
historiográfica sobre el carlismo y el clientelismo político. Con
el objetivo de entender mejor la acción de los diferentes colectivos rurales
en fenómenos de solidaridad vertical interclasista, el texto presenta
una evaluación de los resultados obtenidos en la actualidad con
la parcial aplicación del bagaje teórico y conceptual del llamado «giro
cultural», al mismo tiempo que propone el reconocimiento de las subjetividades
históricas campesinas.

Abstract: The aim of this article is to show the interpreting limits of the
historiographical production about carlism and caciquismo in the last
50 years. As neither the structuralists nor the utilitarists interpretations
are appropriate in order to explain social action from different rural
collectives contributing to interclass vertical solidarity, the text offers
an evaluation exercise about the partial application of the theoretical
background coming from the cultural turn on the historical studies about these two special subjects in Spanish Modern History. Finally, it
proposes the recognition of the peasant historical subjectivities as the
best way to understand their social action.
