Desde el triunfo del PSOE en las elecciones de 1982 y durante
una década, el sistema político español se caracterizó por la existencia
de un partido predominante, con una oposición conservadora con graves
problemas de proyecto, de liderazgo e incluso de identidad y con
el PCE muy debilitado, lo que permitió a los socialistas desarrollar sus
políticas sin condicionamientos de otras fuerzas. Pero desde el inicio
de los años noventa la situación cambió, con un PP refundado y una
revitalizada IU, una serie de escándalos económicos y políticos y la
aparición de disensiones internas en el PSOE.

Abstract: From the victory of the PSOE in the 1982 and during a decade,
the Spanish political system was characterized by the existing of a predominant
party and a conservative opposition that had important problems
concerning their project, their leadership and even their own
identity; in parellel the PCE had suffered a considerable weakening,
which enabled the socialists to develop their policies without any conditioning
coming from other political forces. However, from the beginning
of the 90s on the situation changed, PP had been refunded, IU
had revitalized, a certain number of economic and political scandals
ocurred and internal disagreements within the PSOE appeared.
