The year 2000 will be remembered by those in the legal ethics field as the date of publication of two valuable new research tools: the long- awaited final version of the American Law Institute's Restatement of the Law Governing Lawyers and Ronald D. Rotunda's comprehensive new treatise, Legal Ethics - The Lawyer's Desk Book on Professional Responsibility. Professor Rotunda's new book, consisting of approximately nine hundred pages of text and four hundred pages of rules and indices, magnificently fulfills the promise of its title by providing in a single volume an extremely thorough and up-to-date survey of the law of lawyering. On virtually every topic, the reader will find the text of the relevant ethics rule, its interpretation in bar ethics opinions, the position expressed in the new Restatement, and, most authoritatively, an exposition of the controlling law on the topic based on leading judicial decisions.
