Fighting to break the shackles of everyday life, Muslim women the world over are speaking out, striving to move their lives out of silence, marginalisation and explicit exclusion. Tired of being treated as inferior citizens, there is a genuine need for sexual justice whilst preserving Muslim ideals. In this engaging study, Dr Amina Wadud, an Afro-American Muslim herself, introduces the feminist movement in Islam and delves into its challenges, its textual foundations in the Qur'an and its achievements.
