This is an excellent book covering the recent evolution of the European Union#s Common Energy Policies. Its in-depth analysis and comment on the geopolitical concerns that face Europe domestically and internationally is thorough and perceptive. Unlike many books of this type it provides a useful understanding of the often difficult issues that face energy policy and decision makers within the EU. What is clear is Copenhagen will be only dealing with certain aspects of the complex geopolitical issues that affect energy policy in the EU. Amongst the other concerns examined in this book are the impact of the present economic crisis and the potential threat to Europe#s energy security posed by terrorist groups and Russia. However, some might question perhaps David Buchan#s interpretations and conclusions about the EU#s geopolitical relationships with its neighbours. What is refreshing is that this book provides Europe#s decision makers with some politically practicable solutions that Europe#s politicians should take note of when attending the UN Climate Change Conference in Copenhagen, this December.
